Believe it or not, the Tarantula isn’t the only spider you can catch in the game! If you’re looking for more bugs to fill up your Critterpedia then you’ll want to learn how to catch a Spider in Animal Crossing: New Horizons! This is a lot safer than catching the hairy version of the species, but it can be sometimes hard to get them to spawn.

How to Catch a Spider

The Spider is available all year long, but the hours of when it will spawn might be a bit difficult for some to manage:

  • Northern Hemisphere: All Year Southern Hemisphere: All Year Active Hours: 7pm - 4am Price: 480 Bells

You can only find these at night, so make sure to be out on your island in the late hours. These also don’t spawn like most bugs, because the only way to get a Spider to show up is to go around shaking trees! It’s pretty similar to the Bagworm, but seems to be a bit more elusive. You should only have to shake a tree once to see if it has a Spider in it. If nothing falls out, then head on over to the next tree and shake it. Be ready with your net at all times, you’re likely going to get a lot of Wasps popping out of trees before getting a Spider and they are looking to mess up your face!

The Spider can fall out of any tree, I got mine out of a fruit tree, but I have also seen it fall out of a pine tree as well. It doesn’t appear to matter what tree you shake, you’re just going to need to get lucky.

Once you get a Spider to drop, you will need to quickly take a swing at it with your net. If you miss, however, don’t be too worried about it. You can shake the same tree again and the Spider will fall out again. This can sometimes be frustrating to catch because your net has a tendency to hit the tree. Go a bit to the side of the tree and then swing, that should give you enough room to catch the Spider!
