Ditto, everyone’s favorite shapeshifting Transform Pokémon, is back for 2023 in Pokémon GO with a new lineup of disguises for the month of January. For newcomers or those unfamiliar, Ditto is a Normal-type pocket monster with the ability to mimic the appearance of other Pokémon. As a result, it never appears in its true form when spawning in the wild. Instead, Ditto will appear near the player while pretending to be another pocket monster. The only way to know whether a creature is Ditto is by catching it, after which a brief cutscene will play of the smiling purple blob revealing itself.

Catching Ditto in January 2023 of Pokémon GO

To catch Ditto in January 2023 of Pokémon GO, Trainers must keep an eye out for eleven specific pocket monsters when exploring the AR realm. This pool of eleven creatures includes Ekans, Gastly, Spinarak, Natu, Surskit, Numel, Bidoof, Finneon, Lillipup, Dwebble, and Swirlix. Keep in mind that Ditto can only be disguised as these specific pocket monsters, not their evolutions.

Pokémon GO: Stantler Raid Guide

According to sources at Sportskeeda, Ditto will typically appear with a CP that is “lower than what is expected” in January 2023 of Pokémon GO. In other words, if Trainers are at a high level for their character but encounter Ekans with a CP of 10, it is possible that the Poison-type Snake Pokémon is actually Ditto in disguise. Of course, this CP peculiarity does not guarantee that a pocket monster is Ditto, but it can be helpful if Trainers are “farming” Wild Encounters in search of the Normal-type Transform Pokémon.

It should be noted that Ditto never appears in Raids; therefore, there is no reliable method of catching the Transform Pokémon in January 2023 of Pokémon GO. The only way to get one or its Shiny variant is by waiting patiently for Ekans, Gastly, Spinarak, Natu, Surskit, Numel, Bidoof, Finneon, Lillipup, Dwebble, or Swirlix to appear in the wild. Once players finally catch Ditto, they cannot evolve it into any other pocket monsters, as the Transform Pokémon is the only one in its family. Instead, players can use it in Trainer Battles to copy the creature of their opponent, including its Moveset. However, Ditto’s CP and IVs will not change.

Pokémon GO is available on iOS and Android.
