Two of the Hoenn region’s most iconic Pokémon, Latios and Latias, have joined the world of Pokémon Go.
The duo were added on April 2, which means trainers will be frantically searching for Legendary Raids that house these powerful Pokémon. They can only be found in level five raid battles at various gyms throughout Pokémon Go.
Finding the duo is simple, but battling them is incredibly difficult. Here are some tips that can help you try to take down Pokémon Go’s newest Legendary Pokémon.
Battling Latios and Latias
Before going into battle, it’s vital to find other trainers who can help you on your quest. A large number of fellow trainers participating in raid battles increases your chance of successfully defeating that Pokémon.
Next, you’ll need to make sure that you have the right Pokémon to take on Latios or Latias so you can withstand their ferocious attacks. The duo are Psychic and Dragon-type Pokémon, which means they’re weak to Ice, Bug, Ghost, Dragon, Dark, and Fairy-type moves.
Latios and Latias can know many different moves, so be sure to create a varied team. If possible, a team that consists of an Ice, Bug, Ghost, Dragon, Dark, and Fairy Pokémon would be ideal so you can survive any possible outcome.
These Legendary Pokémon can know either Dragon Breath or Zen Headbutt as their fast attacks, but their charged moves will vary. Both creatures can have Psychic or Dragon Claw as a charged attack. Latios can also know Solar Beam, while Latias might have Thunder.
You need to make sure that your lineup of Pokémon is strong. Having Pokémon that are near or over 2,000 Combat Points (CP) will keep you in the fight for a long time and help you deal more damage over time.
The fight won’t be easy, but it can be done. By doing everything above, you can significantly increase your odds of defeating Latias and Latios. Once you defeat it, the next step will be to try to catch it.
Catching Latios and Latias
After completing a raid, each trainer that participated in the fight will be given individual in-game items as rewards. Trainers will also receive a certain number of Pokéballs to try to catch a weaker version of the Legendary Raid boss.
It’s incredibly difficult to capture a Legendary Pokémon, so we strongly recommend using Golden Razz Berries to boost your chances of catching the Pokémon. The berries greatly increase your chance of capturing either Latios and Latias, but there’s still no guarantee.
The duo are relatively small Legendary Pokémon, so getting an excellent throw, which will also increase your chances of a successful capture, is increasingly difficult.
If you fail to catch the Legendary Pokémon, you’ll need to find another Legendary Raid in a different location, battle the Pokémon again, and pray that this time you can successfully capture it.
Latios and Latias will only be available from April 2 to June 5, so act fast to add them to your Pokédex—there’s no telling when they might return.
