Pokémon come and go in Pokémon Go, and trainers have limited times to catch some of the rarer options. You may have to undergo a particular task, participate in a specific event, or encounter them during a certain time of day. For Spiritomb, trainers have only been able to catch this Pokémon when Halloween arrives, and it’s back starting on October 23 and you have until November 3.
Spiritomb will not be wandering around in the wild like some of the other Pokémon. Traditionally, Pokémon spawn while a trainer wanders around in the physical world. But Spiritomb will only appear in two ways. The first one is completing A Spooky Message Unmasked timed research, which is only available on October 25 from 8 AM to 10 PM in your local area. All you need to do is complete all four tasks before the extremely brief event, and you should encounter a Spiritomb.
Alternatively, the other option is to complete certain Field Research tasks. These Field Research tasks are ones you can acquire by spinning the photo discs at PokéStops and Gym locations. The Field Tasks are tied to the Halloween event, so you can only acquire them starting on October 23, and they go away on November 3. These are the field research tasks.

Spiritomb is one of the rarer Pokémon given how difficult it is for trainers to capture. Hopefully, this year should make it easier for trainers to catch one and add it to their collection.
