The decision to adopt Chromium for Microsoft Edge has largely paid off for the Redmond giant. From users to experts, everyone has hailed the new Edge as a competitive alternative to Google Chrome. It offers better battery life, has a built-in anti-tracking system, and hogs way less RAM than Chrome. Having said that, there are some fronts where Edge has been needlessly opaque. For instance, if you want to change the default search engine on Microsoft Edge then you would have to go through several hoops. That’s why we bring you a simple 3-step guide to change the search engine from Bing to Google or any other search engine. With that in mind, let’s go through the steps.
Microsoft has made it harder for users to access the option to change the search engine. Of all the places, the menu is stuffed under the Privacy settings– unlike Chrome where it’s available on the main page itself. Anyway, to quickly jump to the Search Engine settings page, copy the below address and open it on Edge.
But that is not all. You also need to switch to the “Address Bar” instead of Microsoft’s Search Box that inherently defaults to Bing — no matter what you have set as your default search engine. Once you have done that, search on new tabs will move to the address bar by default.
