Unlike developer Fatshark’s previous Vermintide series, Warhammer 40k: Darktide grants players the ability to customize their character’s appearance and change other cosmetic aspects through armor pieces earned through completing Penances and other possible sources after the official launch. While everyone’s Reject is now personalized to their tastes, the voice and personality of the playable character class still retain unique individuality, boosting the immersion and believability of the grim, sci-fi setting. However, after playing for several hours as one’s Reject, some fans might wonder if they will ever get a chance to redo their appearance and change the cosmetic elements of their character apart from armor.
Changing Character Appearance in Warhammer 40k: Darktide
At the beginning of the game’s beta phase, Warhammer 40k: Darktide did not have any option to change one’s appearance outside of earning special armor through achievement-based feats known as Penances. However, a recent update has introduced Oska Krall, an NPC known as the Barber-Chirurgeon, who is able to modify the users’ appearances free of cost.
How to Unlock and Use the Flamer in Warhammer 40K: Darktide
According to gameplay footage provided by YouTuber RealAsianRobot, the Barber-Chirurgeon is located on the left side of the Mourningstar’s hub area. Once players have spawned into the hub after a mission or launching the game, they must take the first right down the hall. Continue going down the corridor until reaching the Armoury Exchange, the location where weapons and Relics are purchased. From the Armoury, turn left and go through the open doorway to find a small workshop. Speak with the NPC behind the counter to meet Krall, the Barber-Chirurgeon of the Mourningstar.
The Barber-Chirurgeon is capable of providing the same customization service that Darktide users had access to at the beginning of their adventure. In other words, they can alter their face, hairstyle, hair color, scars, tattoos, and much more. However, personalized elements such as one’s name, voice, or backstory are fixed. These established characteristics can only be modified during the players’ initial character customization sequence. As mentioned above, the serves that Krall offers are free of charge. However, keep in mind that this feature could change to a paid feature using in-game currency after the beta ends.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide will be available on Xbox Series X|S and PC.
