In Elden Ring, players will come across various Dragon bosses, which players can defeat to acquire Dragon Hearts. These key items are required to unlock various Dragon Incantations at different Dragon Communions. Some of these Dragon bosses have special Incantations that can be only unlocked after defeating them.
Decaying Ekzykes is one of these Great Enemy class bosses, and it’s located west of the Cathedral of Dragon Communion Site of Grace in southern Caelid. The Dragon sits in the middle of an open area that is surrounded by bounders, trees, and long branches. Players can easily cheese this Dragon by simply hiding behind all the boulders and attacking it with ranged weapons, Sorceries, or Incantations.
Where is the Cathedral of Dragon Communion in Elden Ring?
The Cathedral of Dragon Communion is located in southern Caelid, far west of the Impassable Gate Bridge Site of Grace near Redmane Castle. The Dragon boss Decaying Ekzykes sits alone in a valley-like area west of the Cathedral of Dragon Communion. We recommend using ranged or magic attacks to easily cheese this Dragon, as players can use the terrain to stay out of the Dragon’s line of sight.
Use long-range Sorceries, like Loretta’s Greatbow, Loretta’s Mastery, or Comet Azur, to deal high damage from a distance. Decaying Ekzykes performs a Tail Smash, Sweep, and a Frenzied Dash while fighting close range. Similarly, it spews Rot Breath straight at players and on the ground to create a fog of Scarlet Rot. Always stay on top of the boulders to maintain the height advantage over this Great Enemy.
Decaying Ekzykes will spew Ekzykes’s Decay Incantation while you fight it, so it’s ideal to hide behind the boulders or branches to stay in cover. This Great Dragon is resistant to slash damage but weak against Piercing damage. If you’re aiming to fight this Dragon up close, then use Torrent to jump away from the Rot Breath attacks. Attack its wings and legs when you see an opening and hide behind boulders or branches every time it spews Rot Breath. Players can also summon a Spirit ash while fighting this Dragon so that it gets distracted by the Spirit.
Where to find Ekzykes’s Decay Incantation in Elden Ring
Defeating this Dragon unlocks the Ekzykes’s Decay Incantation that can be purchased from the Cathedral of Dragon Communion in exchange for two Dragon Hearts. This is one of the strongest Dragon Incantations in the game.
To cast Ekzykes’s Decay, players will need 48 FP every time. It uses only one Memory Slot, and players need to level up Faith attribute to 23 and Arcane to 15 to cast this Incantation. It transforms the caster into Scarlet-Rot-spewing Dragon, and players can extend the duration of this attack.
