A scaly dragon with pointy teeth which can also open up portals? Yikes. This guide teaches you how to defeat Nidhogg in God of War Ragnarok.
The premise of God of War Ragnarok couldn’t be cooler: Kratos beating the crap out of the gods of the Norse pantheon in the final battle of the gods? Give me fifteen copies, please!
Before facing the god themselves, however, Kratos will have to deal with other creatures from nordic mythology, such as Drekis, Valkyries, and Nidhogg.
How to defeat Nidhogg in God of War Ragnarok
To learn how to defeat Nidhogg in God of War Ragnarok, you need to keep in mind that this battle is split up into four phases.
Nidhogg Boss Fight – Phase 1
The first phase of the Nidhogg battle in God of War Ragnarok focuses on dealing with melee damage.
You must be careful with the red attacks: dodge to one side if it uses its paws or head.
It goes for yellow attacks if you’re at medium range, so look out for those.
After doing enough damage, the execution signal will appear.
Nidhogg Boss Fight in God of War Ragnarok – Phase 2
It has the same attacks as before, but now it shifts claw attacks into two consecutive combos.
Wait for the red tail swing and move aside to dodge the blow. You can use Shield Bash to hit the blue circle, stun it, repeat, and deal damage until you see a God of War Ragnarok style cinematic.
Nidhogg Boss Fight – Phase 3
In Phase 3, things change. Now it can spawn a crack at the foot of the column. Several red attacks will fall directly on you. Dodge them until the crack closes.
Nidhogg also has a horizontal beam you must avoid and a frontal one, which is a yellow attack.
Did you forget that, in God of War Ragnarok, Nidhogg can land on the ground and use the attacks from previous phases? Yeah. And he vacuums the rocks on the ground to throw them your way, too. So stay on your toes.
When Freya tells you to shoot its seals, some purple runes appear on the column. You can hit them with the axe or the swords, depending on what Freya tells you. This will make Nidhogg fall to the ground, and you can hit it for a while longer.
When you destroy the two columns, the monster will mix up all the attacks on the ground. Keep hitting until you can move on to phase 4.
Nidhogg Boss Fight in God of War Ragnarok – Phase 4
You are almost done. Just hold on until Freya throws a seal into the bug’s stomach, throws the axe, and finishes it off in one go.
When it’s all over, you’ll be given a tutorial on how to use the Amulet, a piece of equipment that can be enchanted to achieve various effects.
God of War Ragnarok is available on PS4 and PS5.
