While overall, it is a pretty straightforward game, Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse has a couple of challenging boss fights. Most of the game sees you easily taking care of enemies and adding them to your zombie army. These fights, however, are a little more obscure in completing them. This is most true with the battle against the scientist at the end of the level, The Doctor Will See You Now. Here is how to beat him and get on with the game.

When you reach the top of the science lab in The Doctor Will See You Now, you will be facing off against the German head scientist. He starts the game in an impenetrable force field and will fly around with a jetpack the entire time, so you cannot use your usual method of running up to him and slapping him until you can eat his brain. Instead, you will need to avoid his fire right off the bat and run towards the giant machine in the middle of the room. Around it is four red buttons you need to press.

Unfortunately, the hit detection on these buttons is poor, so if you are trying to press the button and move to the next one quickly while dodging enemy fire, you will likely have to come back to it. You can tell the button is pressed from a distance by a white light appearing above the red one. If you have your hand ability available, you can safely hide in one of the hallways and throw your hand out to activate each of the buttons.

Once you get all of the buttons pressed, the machine will overload, and the boss’s shield will go down. Now is your chance to strike. Throw as many of your gut grenades at him and make sure to detonate them in the sky next to him if they do not stick. You can fire them early by pressing the left trigger again after you let go of it.

If you ever need to refill your abilities, civilians will occasionally spawn into the area and run to attack you. All you need to do is get close and interact to eat their brains; no fighting is required.

Continue these steps until the boss is defeated. Be sure to use the machine or hallways for cover to regenerate health, and the civilian’s brains will also slightly heal you. When the machine is overloading, it appears to hurt the scientist over time as well. In our game, he flew too high into the electricity, and that was the final hit for us, so you might get lucky with his erratic movements.
