Sonic Mania was such a great addition to the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise that it completely wiped away and replaced the abysmal Sonic the Hedgehog 4. Not only that, but Sega enjoyed the work put into that game so much that they brought back Headcannon to help re-release Sonic 3 & Knuckles in Sonic Origins. The Drop Dash move that made its debut in Sonic Mania is also usable in all of these classic Sonic titles. Here is how to do it.

How to use Drop Dash in Sonic Origins

Using the Drop Dash in any of Sonic Origins’ games is simple and exactly like it was in Sonic Mania. All you need to do is jump in the air and hold the jump button until you hit the ground. You will hear a rev-up sound, and Sonic will turn into a solid blue ball. When you hit the ground, you will quickly take off in the direction you were facing when you jumped.

Important notes to consider: only Sonic can do the Drop Dash since Tails will fly and Knuckles will glide when you hold their jump buttons down. Also, you must be on the Anniversary Mode for the game to be able to Drop Dash since the move was not available in the original versions of these games.

Using the Drop Dash is just another way to get a quick boost of speed when you are stopped in your tracks. You can also chain it after jumping off enemies so you can clear the way and get moving in the right direction quickly.
