At the beginning of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you can choose what your character looks like. But when it comes to color selection, you can only choose natural hair colors: blacks, browns, blonds, reds, and grays.

If you want to add a little more vibrant color to your locks, here’s how to do it.

Saving up Nook Miles

You are going to need quite a lot of Nook Miles to get your hair dyed if you just started. First you will need to pay off the 5,000 miles that you owe Tom Nook, and then your purchase of the Top 8 Stylish Hair Colors will cost you 3,000 miles.

That said, it’s important to note that this is an aesthetic purchase only, and it is a good idea to buy the Pocket Organization Guide (5,000 miles) to give you more space, and the Pretty Good Tools Recipes (3,000 miles) to upgrade your tools before you purchase your hair dye.

Dying

your hair

Unlike in previous Animal Crossing titles, you can change your hair color as many times as you want with no additional cost to you. But in order to do that, you must own a mirror. Getting a mirror is a little trickier, but the easiest way to get one is to find a message in a bottle with a mirror recipe inside.

Other possible ways to get a mirror include getting one from a slingshot balloon present or knocking one down from a tree, but the first option is going to be much easier.

Once you have a mirror, you can set it up wherever you like, though in your home is recommended. If you press A next to it, you can change your appearance. The purchase you have made will have automatically updated the selection. Select the hair icon to see all of your vibrant new dye options.
